Enable Anybody to Upload Files to You without Logon and without Hassle
DriveHQ’s Drop Box Folder feature is totally different from Dropbox.com service! Dropbox.com creates a Dropbox folder on your computer.
You can drag files into it. The folder is synchronized with the cloud.
Now you see “Dropbox” seems to be a misnomer.
It’s better to change the name to “Syncbox” so as not to confuse the original meaning of “drop box”.
A DriveHQ "true drop box" is shown in the picture below.
It works like the mail drop in the post office. You create a drop box for other people to drop files to you securely. From this sense,
DriveHQ’s Drop Box folder restores the original meaning of the word “drop box”.
DriveHQ’s Drop Box feature offers a “reverse” way of file sharing. Instead of sharing your files to other people, you help other people
share files to you. You can create a drop box folder, then post the drop box URL online, and anybody can upload files to you securely
without the hassle of signing-up or signing-in. This can be extremely useful if you don’t know who will upload files to you, or if you
need many people to upload files to you. This is a DriveHQ unique feature. For more details, please read the information below.

- DriveHQ's drop box is the easiest way for anybody to send files to you securely without having to sign up or log on
It is very different from other drop box services. In fact, it works like a "real drop box"! Simply put, anybody can drop (i.e. upload) files into your drop box folder by clicking the drop box URL.
Files in a drop box can only be accessed by the drop box owner. So you can safely email or publish your drop box URL.
This is the best solution if you need to receive files from many clients, partners or anonymous users.
- DriveHQ’s Drop Box is extremely easy and flexible
Anybody can upload files to a drop box by visiting the drop box page. It is very straight-forward and does not require logon, receiving files from other people has never been so easy!
- DriveHQ’s Drop Box is secure
You can email your Drop Box URL to many people or you can publish your Drop Box URL on your web page. It does not affect your drop box's security. Files in a drop box can only be accessed by the owner user. So even if many people can drop files, they cannot view, download, modify or delete any files in the drop box.
To avoid a drop box being spammed by some bad users, you can also create a password protected drop box. When a user accesses the drop box page, it will ask the user to enter a password. Only users with the correct password can drop files into the drop box. Please note a drop box is secure even if it is not password protected.
- A DriveHQ user can create any number of drop boxes
A drop box is a special folder on DriveHQ.com. Any folder can be changed to a drop box by setting the attribute of “this is a drop box folder”. By supporting multiple drop boxes, you can provide different drop box URLs to different groups of people.
- A Drop Box can be more than an upload-only folder
A drop box is a folder (with special attribute) on DriveHQ.com, you can share the folder to other people / group and set different permissions.
- A Drop Box can also be a synchronized folder
Because a drop box is just a folder (with special attribute) on DriveHQ.com, you can synchronize it with a local folder on your PC by using DriveHQ FileManager client software.
- Notification email
When a user dropped a file(s) into your drop box, the system can automatically send you a notification email. This way, you don’t have to check your drop box for new files again and again.
- UI customization and host a drop box in your own web page
You can customize the drop box page. You can change the look and feel, as well as the required fields and optional fields.
You can even host a drop box in your own web page. This way, your customers never need to leave your own website to drop files to you.
- Drop Box vs. Group Account service
In order for other people to upload files to you, you can use either DriveHQ’s group account service or the Drop Box Folder feature.
If a small number of people need to upload files to you, esp. if they will upload files to you on a regular basis, then using group account service is better. You can create sub-accounts for them, and then share different folders to different users.
If a lot of people need to upload files to you, but they don’t need to upload files to you regularly; or if you don’t know who will upload files to you such that you cannot create sub-accounts for them, then you can use the drop box feature.
- Drop box usage scenarios
One example of drop box usage scenario is as follows:
You are hosting a university photo contest. The university has over 20,000 students and faculty. So it will be un-realistic to create sub-accounts for all 20,000 people. Besides, you don’t know who will submit photos to the contest. Instead of asking people to email you their photos, you can create a drop box on DriveHQ and provide the drop box URL to all of them.
Another example is:
Your company has a big construction project. You are looking for contractors to bid for the project. Instead of finding all contactors and contacting them one by one, you can publish your project requirements and asking potential bidders to submit their CAD designs and proposals. Because you don’t know who will bid for this project, you can simply publish a drop box URL for them to submit their CAD designs and proposals.
