DriveHQ offers a complete FTP hosting and file sharing solution. You can set it up instantly. Not only it saves time,
but also it saves cost on FTP Server Hardware, Software, Hosting and System Adminstration. Our service is better than other FTP service providers
because it includes many cloud services such as automatic backup, folder sync, drive mapping, web-based access, etc.
Most other cloud service providers don't support FTP, e.g. Google, Dropbox and Carbonite don't support FTP. Traditional FTP hosting providers such as
FTPToday.com only offer FTP service, but their prices are much more expensive than DriveHQ's.
- What is DriveHQ's FTP Service?
DriveHQ's FTP service is a full-feature FTP server hosting service. Unlike other companies that only offer one FTP account,
DriveHQ offers a "true" FTP server that can replace your in-house FTP server for a fraction of the cost. You can create and manage sub-users or sub-groups. Custom FTP domain is also supported.
DriveHQ is one of the largest FTP hosting service providers. Our FTP is better than any other FTP service in that:
(1) Our FTP supports all regular FTP features so you can use any FTP client.
(2) Our FTP is integrated with DriveHQ Cloud IT Service. You can use web browser, FileManager, or drive mapping to access your FTP storage.
(3) Our service is designed with 99.99% up-time.
- What is DriveHQ's FTP Server address? How can I log on DriveHQ's FTP Site?
Regular DriveHQ users can use ftp.drivehq.com. The FTP port number is the default port 21.
Premium users can also use proftp.drivehq.com, secure FTP over SSL/TLS is also supported.
To log on DriveHQ FTP, you can use any FTP client software. Your FTP username and password are the same as your DriveHQ username and password.
Some FTP client software might ask for a directory name. You don't need to specify a directory name, or you can use any directory in your DriveHQ account.
You can also use any web browser or Windows Explorer, just enter the URL: ftp://USERNAME:PASSWORD@ftp.drivehq.com/.
DriveHQ FileManager is our native client software. It is available on Windows, MAC, iPhone, iPad, Android and Windows Phone. It requires no
configuration and works better than FTP client software.
- Which FTP client(s) are supported?
Almost all FTP clients are supported, including CuteFTP,
WS FTP,
FileZilla, Fetch, Cyberduck, etc.
DriveHQ FileManager is strongly recommended as it is native to our service. It has more features and requires no configuration.
- How much does it cost to host my FTP server on DriveHQ?
If you are already using DriveHQ service, there is no additional charge for the FTP service.
You only need to subscribe to our low cost premium service, which starts at only $4/month for personal FTP, and $12/month for business/enterprise FTP.
You can save a lot of money on FTP server, software, hosting and IT support. Check out our pricing & plans.
- What is the download limit?
For paid users, the monthly download limit is 4 times of storage space subscribed, which is usually far more than enough,
unless you host a heavy traffic website, or if you share some large files with a lot of users. If you do need a lot of download bytes, please contact DriveHQ sales.
We may offer you a special discount.
- What is the No.1 technical advice that users should know?
When accessing behind a firewall, please set FTP access mode to PASSIVE (PASV).
Note Microsoft's command-line FTP client does not support passive FTP, please use other FTP clients.
- I am not a DriveHQ user, and I received a share notification e-mail from my friend. Can I access the shared folder using FTP?
Yes, the instruction is in the share notification e-mail. You need to sign up a free DriveHQ account using this email address,
then log on using your username and password. The shared files will appear in your account in a special folder: \DriveHQ Share\OtherUserName\ShareName
- What access level will I have for a shared folder from a friend?
If you are not a DriveHQ member, you will have read-only access to a shared folder, even if the folder is shared with a higher level permission.
To get write access to a shared folder, please sign up an account on DriveHQ.com.
- Can I share a folder to one user with write permission, and another user with read-only permission?
Yes. You can logon www.drivehq.com or DriveHQ FileManager, share the folder with "Full Access" permission to one user;
nd then share the same folder again to another user with read-only permission. When sharing the same folder again, you must use a different share name.
- Can I let anybody access my folder without an account and without logon?
Yes, you must be a Paid Member or True Member. You can logon www.drivehq.com or DriveHQ FileManager and publish a folder.
Files in a published folder can be downloaded by any users without logon. See the next question for more info.
- Can I create and manage sub-accounts?
Yes, just logon www.drivehq.com, click on My Account and then click on Group Account. You can upgrade your account to a Group Account for free.
You can then create and manage sub-accounts.
- Does DriveHQ FTP support anonymous logon?
Yes, but it works slightly different. If you logon anonymously, you can only access "Published" folders. To let other users logon anonymously,
you must publish a folder first. If you want to logon anonymously, then you must know the publisher's username (e.g. "Mike"). You can then log on with the user name
"anonymous" and your e-mail address as the password. Once connected, enter the folder "/Mike", and you will see all the folders that Mike has published.
- Files in a published folder can be accessed directly with static FTP links like:
ftp://ftp.drivehq.com/USERNAME/PUBLISHNAME/FILENAME
e.g.: ftp://ftp.drivehq.com/DriveHQ/DriveHQSoftware/DriveHQFileManager.exe
- Is DriveHQ service very secure? Is it compliant with HIPAA, SAS 70, ISO or SOX?
Certain industries have high security requirements. DriveHQ service is designed to be extremely secure and can be used to help you meet
such compliance requirements. By default, your files are secure and private. Other people cannot access your files.
DriveHQ supports SSL, which is the same security protocol used by major banks. For ultimate security and privacy, DriveHQ client software supports encryted folder.
When uploading files to an encrypted folder, your data is encrypted locally on your computer before uploaded to DriveHQ server. Even DriveHQ support staff cannot
read your files. If you have any more questions, please contact DriveHQ customer support for a security brochure.
- Can I use KeyLogger or e-surveiller?
Keylogger and e-surveiller can be used to monitor a computer user's key strokes and other activities. Unfortunately they are often
used by hackers to steal information from other innocent people. DriveHQ strictly forbids using our service for any illegal or inappropriate purposes. KeyLogger or e-surveiller is allowed only if:
(1) You provide a legitimate reason to use it; (2) You order our paid subscription; (3) For personal use, you provide a copy of valid photo ID or credit card;
for business use, you must provide a private domain email address and website address.
- Can I use WebCam, IP Camera, Security Camera or Network Camera with your FTP service?
As of Aug. 28, 2012, you shall not use DriveHQ FTP service with any IP / network cameras. Instead, we have a more optimized
FTP service for security cameras at www.cameraftp.com. The service is free for 3-day trial. After that, you must order a subscription,
which starts at only $1.50/month/camera.
